Alliance Abroad Insurance Resource for Programs in the USA

Welcome to the Alliance Abroad Insurance Resource. This resource is intended to help insured participants, leaders and sponsor families know who to contact in the event the insurance is needed.

Participants can also download and print necessary insurance documents such as the Claim Form, I.D. cards and the master policy which gives the details of coverage and exclusions.

Bulstrad Life Insurance
Policy #: 500486
Underwritten by: Bulstrad Life (part of the Vienna Insurance Group)

Alliance Abroad Group has partnered with Bulstrad Life to provide you with emergency medical insurance during your program. Medical care in the United States is very expensive, and we want to be sure that you can receive good care if you need it. You will be calling CORIS International Assistance Company to help you with any of your insurance or medical needs. They will help you find and make appointments with doctors who are part of their worldwide network. They also process your claims.

H-2B Seasonal Work Participants: As part of new regulations governing the H-2B Program, participants may no longer pay any kind of program fee. Thus, insurance will no longer be included as part of the program. However, as medical costs are very high in the U.S., we strongly recommend that you purchase insurance for the time that you are in the United States unless your employer will be providing it for you. Alliance Abroad Group offers the same insurance described on this page to H-2B participants for a very reasonable price per month. Please read through the information provided below (Click here) to get more details.

How do I use my Insurance?

You may already know that the health care system in the United States is very different than in other countries. To avoid problems in the future, please review the following steps that you MUST take to correctly use your insurance and avoid being charged a lot of money for your medical treatment.

In your orientation download package you received an insurance brochure and card. Please keep these with you at all times. You never know when you will need them!

Be sure to follow these steps to ensure that you don’t have to pay more than you have to!

  1. ALWAYS call the insurance company first! The number is 1-800-358-9105. The insurance representative will find a doctor in their network in your area and make an appointment for you. If you do not follow this step, you will have to pay your bill yourself (this can be thousands of dollars!)
  2. You should always take your insurance card, photo identification, and DS-2019 form with you to the doctor indicated by the insurance company.
  3. When you go to the doctor for the appointment the insurance company made for you, you will have to pay $50 for the first visit and $25 for each follow up visit. This cost is called a deductible and it is normal for every insurance company.
  4. If you go to the hospital, the deductible is $250, so you should not go to the hospital unless it is a true emergency!
  5. If you fail to call the insurance before seeking medical attention, you are responsible for paying any bills and then use a claim form to seek reimbursement from Bulstrad Life. If you do not call for authorization, there is a chance that your claim will be denied! For help with filing a claim, call the same number as above and be sure to ask for a case number that you can refer to in the future. Know that getting reimbursed for money you paid can take a long time and is not guaranteed.

Who do I call?

If I am in the USA, I must call CORIS Assistance Company at: 1-800-358-9105

If I am in other countries, I must call:
+359-2-950-5010
+359-2-950-5011
(replace the + with the access number for long distance calls
of the country you are in)

Why is it important to call before treatment?

  • Pre-approval is required for all medical treatments and hospitalizations. Failure to do so will cause a reduction in coverage reimbursements, up to and including a denial of coverage. In a medical emergency, you need to call as soon as possible after seeking treatment.
  • The Claims Office will let you know what coverage is authorized and will help you make an appointment with cooperating doctors who accept this insurance. They will also help you decide if you should be going to a clinic, doctor or hospital for treatment.
  • WHY do you require pre-approval? The cost for medical care in the U.S. is very high if the doctor is not part of the network, so you need to let us help you find a doctor in the network.
  • What does my insurance cover?

    You have limited coverage for:

  • Illness
  • Injury
  • Medical Evacuation
  • Repatriation
  • Certain limitations may apply to your policy.

    Your coverage does not include:

  • Pre-existing conditions, including any illness that begins before your arrival in the destination country (e.g. asthma or diabetes).
  • Routine medical check-ups
  • Dental and eye care
  • Injuries from hazardous activities, including rock climbing, sailing, diving and skiing (ski insurance may be purchased separately).
  • Psychiatric care
  • Physical therapy
  • When does my insurance begin and end?

J-1 Work and Travel and Trainee/Intern Visa program participants: Your coverage begins upon either your arrival in the U.S. or the day before your start date on your DS 2019 form, whichever occurs later. Coverage ends either upon your arrival back in your home country or the day after the end date on your DS 2019 form, whichever occurs earlier. You are not insured for the 30 days of travel at the end of your program. If you wish to purchase additional insurance for this time, please contact AAG at least one month in advance.

H2B Seasonal Work Program Participants: Because your insurance is optional, the dates of your insurance are determined by the dates you choose on the form. You can request insurance to begin at any time (although we recommend that you start the insurance as soon as you arrive in the United States), and it needs to run until at least the end of your H-2B program.

What will I have to pay when I go to the doctor or hospital?

You are responsible for a ‘deductible’ each time you are using any covered services. This is the amount that you are responsible for paying for services at the time of the visit.

    Doctors and Clinics:

  • $50 deductible for the first visit
  • $25 for each follow-up visit per illness or event.
  • For any emergency room visit:

  • $250 deductible
  • This amount will be lowered to $50 if you are admitted to the hospital.
  • What do I need to bring with me when I go to the Doctor or Hospital?

J-1 Visa Programs:  You should always bring your insurance card, photo identification and your DS2019 form.

H-2B Seasonal Work Programs:  You should always bring your insurance card, photo identification and a copy of your I-94 card.

What if the Doctor/Hospital does not recognize or will not accept this insurance?

If you have received pre-approval and guidance from CORIS, you will not have a problem.

Ask the Doctor’s office to call:

I want to go skiing during my program. Am I covered if I have an accident?

Alliance Abroad Group travel insurance does NOT cover recreational skiing, so if you think that there is any chance that you will be skiing during your program, we strongly encourage you to buy this low-cost ski insurance.

Cost: $25 per month for Trainee, Intern, H2B and Teach Programs.
Discounts may apply for Work & Travel participants.

    Terms and Conditions:

  • This insurance is a supplement to your standard Bulstrad Insurance, and all terms apply, including deductible.
  • You can buy this ski insurance before or during your program. We encourage you to buy it before you come.
  • You can buy the insurance for 1 to 5 months. You decide the terms and dates.
  • This ski insurance is not retroactive; if you buy it once your program date has started, the ski insurance fee is non-refundable in any case.
