Why wait? Read on to discover more benefits about this program, the Australian lifestyle, and how you can get started.

A Solution to Teacher Shortages

Australian schools are currently facing significant skills shortages, with 83% of schools reporting teaching vacancies in 2024.

This presents an excellent opportunity for qualified international teachers to fill these critical gaps in the education system while bringing their unique perspectives, innovative teaching methods, and cultural experiences to Australian classrooms.

Schools are looking for highly qualified teachers who are eager to travel, embrace new challenges and adapt to a different educational environment.

Alliance Abroad is working with schools across the country to match qualified teachers  with open positions.  Placements through the program typically last between two and four years, providing long-term stability and allowing teachers like you to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and the broader community you’ll be living in.

Our program is designed to ensure a smooth application and visa process, and transition to your new life in Australia, with comprehensive support systems in place to help you settle into your new life.

The Australian Lifestyle

Relocating to Australia means embracing a lifestyle that balances work and leisure in ways that few other countries can match. Australia is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, from the Great Barrier Reef to the expansive Outback, as well as its vibrant cities and welcoming communities.

And beyond its natural and culinary treasures, Australia boasts a vibrant cultural and social scene, offering everything from world-class festivals and sporting events to a thriving arts community. Teachers will also appreciate the country’s strong emphasis on education and professional development, making it an ideal destination for those looking to grow both personally and professionally.

Work-Life Balance

As an international educator, you can expect a professional schedule that allows ample time for personal enjoyment and exploration.

Australian teachers typically work between 35 to 40 hours per week, with most schools operating from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

Depending on the school, you may also have planning and professional development days, but there’s plenty of time to unwind after school hours. Teachers often have a few weeks off during the school holidays, which are spread throughout the year, providing different opportunities to travel and explore the country.

The school year is divided into four terms, and breaks typically occur between terms, giving you long stretches of vacation time to recharge.  For example, the summer break in Australia starts in the second half of December and ends in the beginning of February. And the winter break is typically at the end of June or the beginning of July and lasts about two weeks. However Australian school holidays vary for each state and territory.

Outdoor Activities and Travel

Australia’s incredible outdoor lifestyle is one of the biggest draws for international teachers. The country is renowned for its natural beauty, from the unique beaches of the east coast to the rainforests of Tasmania. With your time off, you can enjoy activities such as hiking, surfing, cycling, or simply relaxing at the beach.

Australia’s efficient travel infrastructure makes it easy to explore different regions, from the tropical landscapes of Queensland to the cosmopolitan vibe of cities like Sydney and Melbourne.

Cultural and Social Activities

Australia boasts a vibrant arts scene and a strong sense of community, making it a great place to meet new people.

Whether you’re attending a local festival, exploring the world-class dining scene, or enjoying a weekend barbecue with friends, Australia offers an enriching and enjoyable lifestyle.

As an international teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to thrive both professionally and personally, enjoying your teaching role while making the most of your time outside the classroom!

A Smooth Transition

One of the most reassuring aspects of the International Teacher Program is the comprehensive support system provided to our participants. At Alliance Abroad, we are committed to ensuring your success, from the moment you apply to the day you step into your new classroom!

Pastoral care is a cornerstone of the program. This means you’ll have a dedicated team supporting you throughout your journey, helping with everything from preparing for your move to settling into your new community. Regular check-ins and a family-like support system ensure that you feel welcomed and valued as you adjust to life in Australia.

Our program simplifies the recruitment and visa processes, so we focus on handling the complex details and you can focus on what matters most: teaching.

With more than 15 years of experience connecting international educators with schools, we have the expertise to match you with the perfect placement, while ensuring compliance with Australian immigration laws.

Teaching Opportunities

Currently, there are exciting opportunities for both Primary and Secondary teachers. Secondary school teachers specializing in areas like Health & Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), Math, and Science are particularly in demand.

The combination of strong academic resources, supportive staff, and engaged communities makes Australia an ideal place to teach. You can expect a competitive salary ranging from AUD $88,000 to AUD $131,000, depending on your role and level of experience.

In addition to your salary, our program offers a range of benefits to help make your move as seamless as possible.

Successful applicants will receive sponsorship under the Temporary Skills Shortage Visa (482), allowing you to live and work in Australia for several years. This visa also enables you to bring your spouse and children. Your spouse can work, and your children can attend school, giving your family the chance to thrive alongside you.

This program includes relocation assistance of up to AUD $25,000, a one-way airfare to Australia, and a settling-in payment of AUD $5,000 to help you get started.

In Australia, teachers are welcomed with open arms, and schools are eager to support your transition. You’ll also benefit from up to 20 weeks of temporary accommodation while you search for long-term housing, while in some rural locations housing is free. Additional allowances of up to AUD $8,000 per year are available for teachers with long-term commitments.

“Teachers in these programs deepen their expertise, gain global understanding, and develop leadership skills. They not only teach but also inspire a global perspective in their students, positioning themselves for greater opportunities in and beyond the classroom.”
